Why Did I Pick This Topic?
Early in the pandemic I decided to splurge and buy a Cricut. I thought it would be fun and useful for my future career in teaching. A Cricut is a cutting machine where you use a design space to create projects that the Cricut then cuts out for you. I have seen teachers on social media use their Cricuts to decorate their classrooms, create their schedules, and create resources for lessons.
I decided to base my free inquiry project around my Cricut because I still only know the basics on how it works and I would like to utilize it in my teaching career. I aim to learn how to use my Cricut and culminate my inquiry with designing my own project.

How I Feel About Beginning My Inquiry
I am excited to start my inquiry project with my Cricut as I have always loved crafting. I look forward to researching a variety of projects and eventually designing my own project. My past experience with the Cricut is making pre-made cards, labels and bulletin board letters. I am excited to expand my design knowledge by using the Cricut Design Space but at this point in time I also feel unsure about my design abilities.
What Are The Next Steps?
My next step in my free inquiry is to research the Cricut and how to design projects. Based on my findings I will try some small projects and experiment with different ways to do things. I found this great blog https://www.lovealwaysaudrey.com/2019/12/cricut-beginners-guide/ to help me start the process.

Hi Kasey!
Your free inquiry topic sounds great! I think it will be super valuable to you as you can incorporate using it in your future lesson plans and teaching projects. I’ve seen projects online using the Cricut and some really cool things can be done. It will be really cool to physically see your progress with this inquiry as you explore the different things you can make and do with it.

Hello, Kasey.
Thanks for the explanation of what a Cricut is–I was wondering if you had badly mistyped “circuit!” I love how you attributed your own photo, though all joking aside it is your photo and you are right to put your name to it. Glad you managed to avoid catching yourself in all those reflective surfaces!
It sounds like a great project for a teacher candidate. Though I didn’t know the name, I had seen one of those before, during my Link2Practice visits. My Partner Educator had used it to cut out little outlines of teeth, and when one of her grade 2-3 students lost a baby tooth, they were given a paper tooth to colour and decorate, before it was posted up on a class bar graph, showing how many teeth were lost each month. It seems as though there are many things you could do with such a device.
I also like the titles for each section–the large, bold lettering neatly subdivides your post and keeps it organised and readable.

Hi Kasey,
I like your inquiry! I have seen ads and videos of all the cool things people design with cricuts. I have seen that a lot of teachers use them and do pretty things. can’t wait to see your projects. If you are on TikTok, there are many videos with mini-tutorials, though I bet there are a ton on social media!
